Most things start small, and so it is for this humble little enterprise. After years of faithful reading of Fine Woodworking and watching Norm Abrams on New Yankee Workshop and, along with Tom Silva, on This Old House, I started a collection of tools and worked on honing my meager woodworking skills. 35+ years later the tool collection has grown, the workshop is sweet and I’ve learned a thing or two (although mistakes, sadly, are still a daily occurrence).
Over that time I’ve build hundreds of things including humble birdhouses and stools up to more substantial items including cabinets, beds, chairs & stools, and a nice barn (okay, it’s really a shed, but I call it a barn). Many of these are still at our home. But most of theses items have gone on to live fuller lives elsewhere at the homes of friends & family (and one or two paying customers).
So, what will I build next? Who knows. You see, it’s a hobby and not my occupation. This means I’m lucky enough to work on things that interest me and not necessarily tied to a client. I have nothing against clients. Clients, after all, (from my day job) paid for the workshop. it’s just that it is a lot more enjoyable to work on my timetable and my own likes & dislikes.
Does that mean I won’t build something for you? Of course not. Drop me a line and tell me what you are interested in.
There’s no harm in asking.
