The Barn

The Barn* was one of those group projects. I did the planning and prepared the material as much as I could. But, with invaluable assistance from Bob & Anne (The Bishheims!), we put most of it together over a long weekend. Jane painted and I worked on the roof and shingles over the next few weeks until we had to call it done.

The plan is from an incredibly over engineered design put together by Norm Abrams and the New Yankee Workshop people. The drawing was (mostly) complete and it wasn’t too difficult to build. What I loved about this was that it was a little bit of everything — site planning, platform, framing, rafters, sheathing, trim, roofing, and shingles. Planning and preparation were key. Oh, and get a permit from the town. That was important too. But that’s another story for another time.

As I write this the Barn is 9 years old and still looks amazing. It stores all of our garden & lawn equipment, spare wood, assorted outdoor furniture, tires and bicycles thus freeing up garage space for a workshop.

* (Okay, it’s really just a “shed”. Fine. Call it whatever you want to call it. But it’s my barn so I call it a Barn.)
